Portraits win 2020 Graphis International Photography award for Journalism

Marksteen’s study capturing the everyday people of his (and ASHA’s) hometown has been recognised with a Gold in Graphis’ latest photography annual. The project plays with the traditional ideas people have of the town and displays a cross-section of society.

Using consistent framing and positioning of the subjects helps to emphasise the unique personality behind each portrait. When seen together, the series gives a strong impression of the variety of the local inhabitants.

In addition to being exhibited locally, the project was featured in Leica’s international photography magazine LFI.
